[ARCHIVED] Police Dept. Press Release 6/30/2010

A 21 year old male, of Rock Springs was reported missing on 6/29/10 at 18:06 hours while floating the Green River yesterday evening. A body was later recovered by divers with the Sweetwater County Search and Rescue team at approximately midnight. The victim apparently drowned when he fell off an inner tube he was using to float the river. The victim was reportedly not wearing a life jacket at the time. Officers from the Green River Police Department, the Green River Fire Department, and the Sweetwater County Sheriff’s Office were all involved with the rescue efforts and recovery. The Green River Parks and Recreation Department provided additional lighting to aid personnel at the scene.

Gabriel C Jordon, age 18, of Rock Springs was cited for Underage Consumption of Alcohol on 6/29/30 at 13:01 hours on Commerce Way. Officers were dispatched to Adult Probation and Parole to witness a urinalysis of a client. The probation officer smelled the odor of alcoholic beverage on Jordon’s breath. A breath sample was taken and showed Jordon’s blood alcohol concentration at .074%. Jordon admitted to drinking and he was cited for the violation.

Verbal disputes were reported on Iowa Circle and on E Teton Blvd. Accidental damage was reported on E Flaming Gorge Way. Property found at Stratton Meyer Park after the Flaming Gorge Day’s celebration are as follows: a set of reading type glasses and a set of glasses in a blue case, a Wyoming driver’s license belonging to Candice Taylor, a digital camera, and a Verizon cell phone.

The Green River Police Department would like to remind the public that we strongly recommend the use of a personal flotation device while swimming or floating the Green River this summer. Although the river appears to be well below its normal flow, there are still very strong currents that present a very real danger. We hope you have a safe and enjoyable summer in 2010 and the use of a personal flotation device will help to ensure your safety.
