The Green River Police Department recently posted a video which shows the department's current facility located in Green River City Hall.
The video outline three issues: Safety, Working Conditions, and Storage. Police Chief Chris Steffen shows what it is like to be a part of the daily operation of the Green River Police Department.
"Our number one focus is servicing the victims and the citizens of Green River and we are currently doing that as best we can with the current resources available."
Steffen says that the department has already outgrown the current resources of space and that safety is a major concern. In the video, a closer look of why the department is in need of a new police facility is addressed.
"Space is so limiting that suspects and victims share the same common area, and interviews are conducted in the middle of the department," says Steffen. "We are overflowing with storage boxes, given the lack of storage space and ventilation has become a serious problem."
The general election is on November 6 and the Green River Police Department is listed as a 6th penny proposition. Steffen says that with the continual changes in law enforcement and by continually working with the Rock Springs Police Department and Sheriff's Department, the ability to provide a sufficient service does impact those other departments. In order to provide a service that citizens have come to expect, Steffen believes that a new facility will be needed.
Says Steffen, "I want citizens to understand that we want to be the most efficient department for our residents and our hope is that a new beginning in a new police facility will bring the agency into a better future."
